In a major crackdown, Agra Police have busted a religious conversion racket allegedly operating on the lines of “The Kerala Story.” Five individuals have been arrested from different states, and multiple teams are tracking the gang’s wider network.

In Lucknow, Police Commissioner Deepak Kumar briefed the media, revealing that in March this year, a missing persons case was filed at Agra’s Sadar Bazar Police Station concerning two real sisters — 33‑year‑old Amina and 18‑year‑old Joya.

“Given the seriousness of the matter, a case was registered under Sections 87, 111(3), and 111(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 3/5 of the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Religious Conversion Act, 2021. The case was later transferred to the Cyber Police Station, and full details were shared with the DGP and ADG (Law & Order),” Commissioner Kumar stated.

Upon deeper investigation, police discovered a network spread across at least six states, actively promoting radicalization and allegedly involved in “love jihad” activities. The Commissioner added that the network was receiving foreign funding, with money traced back to Canada and the USA.

Commissioner Kumar further confirmed that, following directions from the DGP, he is personally supervising the investigation. An Additional DCP‑rank IPS officer Aditya kumar is monitoring the probe on a daily basis.

Police say the operation is ongoing and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend all those associated with the racket.
