Subletting Questions Raised Over Agra Metro Commercial Shops,: Possible Tender Rule Violation
Advertisement Offering Shops Near Red Fort and Taj Mahal Metro Stations Triggers Questions Over Compliance With UPMRC Tender Conditions
Agra: An advertisement offering commercial shops for rent near Agra Metro stations has sparked questions over whether spaces allotted by the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) are being sublet without prior approval.
The advertisement, published in a local newspaper, claims that 10 shops are available near Red Fort Metro Station and 20 shops near Taj Mahal Metro Station. Following its publication, concerns have emerged over whether the commercial spaces, originally allotted under UPMRC’s licensing process, are being rented out in accordance with the terms of the agreement.
According to available information, UPMRC awarded commercial kiosk and retail space licences at various Agra Metro stations through Tender AGKS-02 in January 2026. The tender conditions reportedly state that a licensee cannot assign, transfer or sublet the licensed premises to any individual or entity without prior written approval from UPMRC.
While the advertisement offers the shops directly on rent, it does not mention whether the required approval from UPMRC has been obtained. This has led to questions over whether the proposed rentals comply with the tender conditions. However, no official confirmation of any violation has been made so far.
The tender document further states that, in the event of a breach of licence conditions, UPMRC has the authority to terminate the licence, forfeit the security deposit and initiate other contractual action as provided under the agreement.
At the time of publishing this report, UPMRC had not issued an official response. Efforts were made to obtain the corporation’s comments, but no official reply was received. The corporation’s response will be carried prominently once it becomes available.
Tender Conditions at a Glance
- Subletting is not permitted without prior written approval from UPMRC.
- Even if approved, any subletting cannot extend beyond the validity of the original licence.
